Inside Our Sunny Studio Retreat

We had a work trip…and never talked about work. Our core team is international (a fact which makes us feel kinda fancy and important).

We’re all based in different cities across the US and Canada, including Portsmouth, NH, Austin, TX, and Toronto, Canada. This means that our day to day includes near constant Slack messages and frequent Zoom meetings.

We’ve worked this way for years. And though it works well in our remote-first, digitally-driven world, we had been itching to finally meet in person.

We could not believe that despite talking nearly every day, we’d never seen each other’s feet!

So, we packed up our laptops, switched on our OOO, and hopped on a plane to Austin, Texas. ✈️🤠

Connection over capital

This trip was incredible. First and foremost, we had so much fun.

We rarely think about work filling up our cup this way. Instead we’re always told to focus on optimizing our performance; on making our work better, faster, and more efficient. But the purpose of this retreat wasn’t to brainstorm new income streams or reassess company priorities, it was to hang out. To get to know each other. To take some time off, reset, and try things that inspire us creatively.

Of course, there’s a time and place for those practical business conversations. But this trip reminded us that sometimes the most productive thing you can do is close your laptop and get out into the world.

That’s where new ideas tend to find you anyways.

A sneak peak into our activities…

Ok, now let’s talk about work.

We had the pleasure of working with the talented Leeann Funk on new studio photos. Here are a few of our favorites:

Join the Fruit for Thought newsletter where once a month we'll share creative inspiration, new work, and stories from the gals behind the studio. We hope to see you there!
