Behind the Brand: Big Moon Ranch

In this new series, we’re pulling back the curtain on some of the intentional design choices we made in our latest work.

First up: Big Moon Ranch, a luxury vacation property tucked into the Texan countryside.

This was a year-long collaboration that covered it all: discovery, naming, brand identity, website, signage, guest guidebook, and more.

The story

Big Moon Ranch started with a clear vision: to create a family-friendly escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Rooted in reverence for nature and a love of the outdoors, the founders wanted to rekindle a slower pace, when evenings were spent around a fire, not a phone.

We started exploring naming options that reflected this spirit. Big Moon Ranch stood out immediately as a name that felt humble, grounded, and connected. To bring the name to life, we even wrote a short story of our own, capturing the feeling the brand would embody.

That narrative thread carried through the entire project: from the playful “Cowboy Commandments” we wrote, to the custom poem now displayed in the amenity center.

The look and feel

Our mood boards leaned into nostalgia and comfort, including emerald greens, creamy neutrals, and rich browns, layered with hand-drawn illustrations reminiscent of vintage leather-bound books. The palette and textures feel natural and lived-in, evoking a sense of safety, curiosity, and a touch of childhood wonder.

The logo suite

Big Moon Ranch is a place where families can come together, where kids can run free, and not come home ‘till the dinner bell rings.’ As a nod to the founders and their family, we created a logo suite that features a small illustration of their son lassoing the moon. It’s whimsical, playful, and a cheeky nod to one of their families’ favorite movies, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

The space

One of our favorite things about this project was seeing how our work influenced the physical space. Inspired by the brand identity, the property designer installed a glowing moon light in the mercantile shop entry way. There really is a big moon at Big Moon Ranch, y’all!

Every brand has a story—this is Big Moon Ranch’s.
