What we’re making when we’re not designing
Take a peek inside the studio this summer
Usually, work slows down a bit in the summertime. It’s a chance to catch up on internal projects, take some much needed time off, and recharge before a busy fall. This summer’s been a liiiiittle different.
We’ve been VERY busy with some amazing client projects, like our brand identity for Memorial Hall Library, while also prioritizing the creative energy that fuels our work.
Despite the busyness, we decided as a studio to implement Summer Fridays (a half or full day off every week, when we can swing it) with one important stipulation: use this time off to reconnect with your favorite hobbies.
The act of creating is always more important than the result
As designers and writers, our work requires a steady stream of creative energy, which can be hard to cultivate when you spend most waking hours inside, behind the blue-glow of a computer screen.
Kelly, Jenna and I all have hobbies that we love, like painting, sewing, and beading; things we make with our hands for the sole purpose of feeling joy and bringing more beauty into the world.
Plus, we find that spending this time doing something artistic usually gives us that much-needed creative jolt. You never know what inspiration you’ll find for the next mood board in the paint colors you mix, or the headline that pops into your head when you’re lulled by the rhythmic hum of the sewing machine.
So this summer, we’ve put a little extra time into our hobbies. And it looks a little different for each of us, but that’s the beauty of bringing multiple creatives together in one space. We’re prioritizing curiosity, self-expression, and discovery over perfection…and seeing what happens.
Staying fully booked 📚📖
Reading has become such a grounding ritual for me. It’s a chance to step away from the screens and get lost in my own little creative world. While I've loved reading by the pool this summer, I'll always choose the beach if I have the option.
There’s something about spending long, slow hours outside with a good book that makes the perfect summer day. And as a little milestone, I’m officially halfway to my reading goal for the year!

Sewing something special 🪡🧵
I’ve spent the last few weeks sewing for our newest intern, joining the team (and the world!) this December!
I love perusing the fabric store, getting inspired by all of the different colors, textures, and patterns, and then making something entirely from scratch.
It’s my favorite way to decompress and get out of my head after a busy week!
Don’t forget to play 🎨🖌️
I was very into drawing and watercolors growing up; I could almost always be found on the floor of my bedroom, looming over a painting, art supplies and water cups spread out haphazardly all around me, while Florence and the Machine blared from my CD player (Jenna can attest to this!).
Despite the obligations of adult life which have pulled me away from making art, I’ve recently become inspired to reconnect with that part of myself again. I’ve restocked my supplies and eased back in with small doodles to help bring me back into myself.
Plus, I find it peels away the outside stresses of small business ownership and the doom and gloom of the internet!

We hope you enjoyed this foray into the whimsical place that is our brains!
We’d love to know, what are your hobbies? What creative pursuits bring you joy?
